Hallelujah

Eva Hamer

  C Am
A bitter smell for miles around
  C Am
A broken wing, a shrieking sound
 F G C G
Someone who needs freedom coming to you
  C F G
A hundred thousand suffering
Am F
Only after death they sing
  G E7 Am
A single and a silent hallelujah

   F Am F C G C G
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelu-u-u-u-jah ....

 C Am
Once I heard that farms like here
   C Am
Won’t be the same after 40 years
  F G C G
The world is changing shape just like we’re used to
    C F G
Let’s plant a flag into the ground
  Am F
Our voices join into a sound
  G E7 Am
A promise and a prayer for revolution

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelu-u-u-u-jah ....

     C Am
I’ve been on my own before
  C Am
A single voice against this war
  F G C G
So powerless alone before I knew you
C F G
But now that we are organized
  Am F
We’ll light the path to save their lives
  G E7 Am
They’ll be safe and free soon, hallelujah

   F Am F C G C G
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelu-u-u-u-jah ....

C Am
That year, only five of us
   C Am
Went in a farm, now hundreds of
 F G C G
us crowding round the doors to try and save them
C F G
Every day our numbers grow
  Am F
The love we have can overflow
    G E7 Am
It started as a thought, became a movement

   F Am F C G C G
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelu-u-u-u-jah ....

   C Am
From grocery stores and slaughter trucks
    C Am
To jail cells, and with any luck
  F G C G
They used to laugh but soon they’ll start to join us
   C F G
Like warriors we will train our minds
    Am F
To fight with love and only find
  G E7 Am
Forgiveness at the end, just hallelujah

   F Am F C G C G
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelu-u-u-u-jah ....
