Lyrics

(1 line of lyrics = 2 bar)

(Verse 1 — about animals caught in the wild)
You were a hermit crab in the wild
But a human took you away
Shipped across the world in a 2-liter bottle
And so you were forced.. into the pet trade

When you arrived and they brought you out
You saw your friends didn’t survive the trip
Now that you’re waiting on the shelf at Petco,
Do the humans around know what you went through?

(Chorus)
You are not a price tag, you’re someone not something
You can’t be contained, you’re someone not something
We’re making sure they hear your voice, ‘cause
Every animal is someone not something

(Verse 2 — about breeding mills)
You are a parakeet, born to fly
In a breeding mill where they didn't let you
All you could’ve had was taken away
Crammed in a filthy cage, where you could not escape

Bred into existence and taken from your mom
If you got sick that could be the end
Your neck would be crushed or your head ripped off (chords for this line only: A A♭aug C/G Dm/F)
Because you don’t fit the aesthetic they want, but

(jump to Chorus x2, then Outro)

(Outro)
Adopt don’t shop
Adopt don’t shop
Adopt don’t shop
‘Cause every animal is someone not something

Adopt don’t shop
Adopt don’t shop
Adopt don’t shop
‘Cause every animal is someone not something
