I Will Wait for You

Mis Kyrene

Could someone please
explain something to me
There are fearful eyes as far as mine can see
I’m trying to find my mom’s
In the dark of these four walls,
is she trying to find me too?
Why can I not hear her calls?

Would she even recognize my face?
I’ve grown a bit since I was brought here
to this place
I’ve been asking all around
kicking and screaming on the ground
How can no one know a thing inside this space?

CHORUS
In the stillness of my own despair
a heartbeat of hope comes through somewhere
I know that help is somewhere real close by
They say that you are not allowed
but I feel the strength of a loving crowd
when your light spills through the cracks inside
So I will wait another day
cause at least I know you tried

While it’s true that I’m not trapped inside a cage
my life is hardly free from pain or rage
There’s nowhere for me to turn
The heat makes my eyes burn
I’ve cried out so much, my throat feels very dry
I’m much too young for me to want to die

CHORUS

BRIDGE
My captors sent the light away
It’s harder now to face another day
if all this stays the same
Survival’s just a game
that I don’t know if I can ever win
I’m told it doesn’t matter if I do
that after this it only gets much worse
Please tell me that’s not true,
please save me from this curse
I know you’re coming back for me
so I will wait for you

In the stillness of my own despair
a heartbeat of hope pounds through somewhere
I know that help came in the nick of time
You marched past all the laws and lies
towards the sound of desperate cries
and this time, no one could stop you now
cause compassion’s not a crime
no, compassion’s not a crime
